Tüftel-Workshops

When do most ideas develop? During fiddling! Design Thinking is done with children in the format “Tüftel-Workshop” from #Berlinforschtmit – the TD-Lab. During the three hours workshop children aged 8-12 first develop a key topic by developing ideas, bringing them together and discussing them. Those are then expressed in small prototypes and Stop-Motion-Videos. The children´s ideas show their perspectives on everyday problems as well as their wishes and suggestions for new research.

#Berlinforschtmit thanks the Jungen Tüftler*innen for their creative collaboration.

ON-SITE – STUDENTS IN THE MALL ANDERS

On 2. And 3. June 2022 two 4th grade classes of the Nehring-primary school were invited to the Mall Anders in Berlin Wilmersdorf to fiddle and develop ideas on the topic of plastic waste. Their self-determined main topics were “plastic and the ocean” and “Plastic as a threat to animals”. Some children were also concerned with the question why people do not throw trash in bins but in parks and on the streets. The students tinkered with a lot of creativity and fun and created many interesting prototypes out of old packaging waste. Amongst them is a robot vacuum cleaner, plastic dissolving chemicals and a trash-rocket to the sun.

ON-SITE – CHILDREN IN THE MALL ANDERS

On Saturday the 4th June 2022 children aged 8-12 visiting the shopping mall in Berlin Wilmersdorf were invited to participate in one out of two Tüftel-Workshops. Again, the children worked on the topic of plastic waste. Their self-determined main topics were “Recycling of plastic” and “Pollution of cities through waste”. During the workshops ideas like a Recycling-robot, which creates cloths out of plastic waste, a cleaning day for all Berliners and a pen consisting of algae were developed.

THE LOCATION – MALL ANDERS

The Tüftel-Workshops from #Berlinforschtmit took place in the Mall Anders in the shopping centre Wilma Shoppen in Berlin Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. The Mall Anders was a temporarily and open innovation and learning Lab. Students from the university course Natural Building Lab build this lab out of a former shop and developed a concept for its use and supervised events. The former renter left products and inventory out of which the students designed tables and shelves as well as a completely new room. Until June 2022 movie presentations, exhibitions, Workshops, Science Slams, lectures and discussions with scientists and Berliners were held in the Mall Anders. The Mall Anders was funded by the Berlin University Alliance.
