#Berlinforschtmit
The Project

#Berlinforschtmit – the TD-Lab is a project of the Berlin University Alliance. It connects questions of Berliners with the excellent research of the Alliance. Transdisciplinary. Practical. With results that have a direct impact in Berlin. Thereby, #Berlinforschtmit is breaking new mould. New formats of addressing are being developed and new methos are tested, to improve the exchange between science and society. New networks are being established between science, politics, civil society, administration, and the researchers of the Berlin University Alliance. In Berlin and for Berlin.

PHASE ONE
QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS

It is one main assumption of #Berlinforschtmit, that sciences can contribute even better to solving societal challenges if the topics for joint research are already submitted by society. But what are the topics or Berlin-specific problems that Berliners are concerned with? In order to find that out, #Berlinforschtmit takes to the streets and asks. Two creative approaches – Tüftel-Workshops and Clowning – were developed to inquire what Berliners are concerned with. Questions, ideas or wishes can also be submitted online about what should be researched in Berlin. All questions can be found online.

PHASE TWO
QUESTIONS WITHOUT ANSWERS

But what happens next? How should new research emerge from this? Out of the almost 1000 topics, questions, and keywords that Berliners and guests of Berlin have given us so far, two topics stand out: Artificial Intelligence and Climate change. Together with scientists from the Berlin University Alliance and practical partners, #Berlinforschtmit embarks on a detective journey. Who is working on these topics? What do the sciences know? What Best-Practice examples are there? Which problems are still lacking practical solutions?
To answer these questions #Berlinforschtmit developed and conducted the TransImpro-Workshop. Using improvisational theatre techniques and reflections, transdisciplinary research approaches for Berlin were collectively brought together.

Furthermore, within the event series LOOPS many topics submitted by Berliners are discussed and reflected with international guests from art and technology, for example migration and postcolonialism, images about climate and experiences in nature as well as digitalisation. It is conducted by New Practice in Art and Technology in cooperation with #Berlinforschtmit.

PHASE THREE
SOLUTIONS FOR BERLIN FOR SOCIETAL CHALLENGES

Transdisciplinary research approaches were developed, which are going to be turned into project proposals in further transdisciplinary workshops. #Berlinforschtmit supports scientists and practical partners in connecting their topics, developing a joint research design, and writing an application for funding, to then work on transdisciplinary solutions for societal challenges.
